Presently, anyone can operate as a letting agent. No experience, training or insurance is required.
ARLA agents must:
Pass a stringent entrance examination
Have been trading for a minimum period of time
Hold professional indemnity insurance to cover malpractice
Keep all clients monies in a separate clients account
Hold separate insurance to cover client's monies
Supply an annual accountants' declaration confirming the proper operation of their client’s account
Comply with strict codes of practice
